Singapore:Â Cancer Research UK has brought together the world's leading scientists along with technology giants such as Amazon Web Services, Facebook and Google to design and develop a mobile game that would accelerate cures for cancer.
This innovative idea means that anyone with a smart phone and five minutes to spare on a bus journey will be able to play an enjoyable game that will simultaneously investigate vital scientific data.
Cancer Research UK is organizing a weekend 'GameJam' or 'hackathon' in London for forty 'hackers', including computer programmers, gamers, graphic designers and other computer specialists. The event aims to convert Cancer Research UK's raw gene data regarding cancer into a game format, with a working title of GeneRun.
The 'GameJam' event also aims to identify new, engaging and scientifically robust ways for the public to help analyse gene data. The game foermat obtained at the end of the event will be further worked on by an agency to build the final game format, which will be launched in summer 2013.
