The week Asia
set the agenda

Twelve stories from BIO Asia-Taiwan 2026, reported from inside the halls at TaiNEX. Not a summary of the programme. An argument about where this industry is going, filed from the place it is going to.

Note from the COO

We did not send a team to Taipei to file show reports.

BIO Asia-Taiwan has become the week when this industry's centre of gravity is visible rather than argued about, and we wanted to report it as a story rather than a schedule.

What our team found across five days was a region that has stopped asking permission: an agenda built around what Asia genuinely does best, global leaders who came here to make their case in person, and a host country spending the week working out precisely where it intends to lead.

The stories below are what that looked like from inside the halls. Read them in any order.

Foreword from the ground

You learn more in the aisles than you do in the sessions.

By Thursday the halls at TaiNEX had the particular density you only get when a market has decided that something is happening. Delegations from more than twenty countries, a partnering system running flat out, and four languages moving across the same booth counter.

What stayed with me was how little persuading anyone was doing. Nobody here was trying to convince the world that Asian biotech had arrived. They were too busy booking the next meeting.

What follows is the week as we found it: fast, confident, and unusually clear about what it wants next.

Where Chips
Meet Cells

Taiwan makes the silicon the world's AI runs on. Now it wants the same edge in medicine, fusing semiconductors, AI and one of the planet's largest genomic cohorts into a precision-health advantage. The question is whether compute can become cures.

BioSpectrum Asia Excellence Awards 2026  ·  Nominations open

Taiwan spent a week
proving it. Now put it
on the record.

Everything in the coverage above was an argument made in a room: the linker platforms, the exosome cluster, the in vivo cell therapy, the detection technology nobody else is building. The Excellence Awards are where that work gets judged and named, in front of roughly 350 senior leaders from eight regional markets.

Twenty-nine honours across three tiers, scored blind by an independent international jury that includes Dr Wallace Chih-Hwa Lin, Secretary-General of Taiwan BIO. Sponsorship and judging are kept strictly separate, which is the reason the honour is worth having. Self and third party nominations are welcome in every category.
