As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve and affect more countries, understanding infection - how it spreads and how we can help prevent its spread - is knowledge we should all have.  To help people understand this area better, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) has partnered Gnowbe to launch a new microlearning course (MLC) in Infection Control & Prevention 101.

Developed by NP’s School of Health Sciences, members of the public can access the MLC for free on the Gnowbe platform.

The course, which takes just over 40 minutes to complete, is developed with the smartphone user in mind, and features short bite-sized segments. Looking ahead, there are also plans to produce content in different languages.

“Put together by nursing educators, this course seeks to help the public gain a working knowledge of what healthcare professionals call the chain of infection, and the practical ways everyone can go about helping prevent the spread of infection,” said NP’s Director for School of Health Sciences, Dr Phang Chiew Hun.

“Launching this programme on a mobile microlearning platform doesn’t just raise large-scale awareness, but also increases retention and application of the knowledge through actions. Organisations can take the initiative, beyond existing precautionary measures, to actively educate employees on best practices and make it mandatory for staff to complete this simple course to ensure acknowledgement and compliance with good hygiene practices. Applying these practices is always better than just knowing it,” said Gnowbe’s Chief Executive, So-Young Kang.

Apart from this free course for the public, NP has also developed a 68-minute professional training programme for healthcare practitioners who are keen to deepen their knowledge and skills on infection control and prevention.  The professional programme is also accessible on the Gnowbe platform.
