Singapore will contribute $2 million to support the ongoing Ebola Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) outbreak response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. The contribution will be made through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), in support of the joint Continental Preparedness and Response Plan.
The BVD outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the WHO on 17 May 2026 and a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security by Africa CDC on 18 May 2026. According to the WHO, the BVD outbreak in the DRC is evolving rapidly, with sustained transmission and a rising number of reported cases.
Singapore's contribution will support efforts in laboratory testing and contact tracing, infection prevention and control, and case management on the ground.
It will be channelled towards the procurement of vital supplies under the Continental Preparedness and Response Plan, including- Diagnostic and laboratory equipment to scale up testing and contact tracing; Personal protective equipment and infection prevention and control supplies for frontline healthcare workers; and Essential medicines, fluids, blood products, oxygen, and critical care equipment for treatment units and hospitals.
