Japan-based companies Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. and Towa Pharmaceutical Co. have entered into an agreement to establish a strategic collaborative framework in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Through this agreement, Otsuka and Towa aim to achieve a stable supply of pharmaceuticals by transferring and outsourcing the manufacture of certain pharmaceuticals owned by Otsuka, utilizing Otsuka's data in the development of Towa's generic drugs, and establishing a mutual backup manufacturing system.
The conclusion of this agreement is intended to address the recent social issue of unstable pharmaceutical supply and represents the Japanese pharmaceutical industry's initiative that transcends the boundaries between an originator pharmaceutical company and a generic drug manufacturer.
By establishing a collaborative framework based on the corporate philosophies of both companies, they will mutually leverage their respective strengths to further enhance the stable supply of pharmaceuticals and contribute to patient treatment.
