Sierra Leone registers 121 Ebola deaths in one day!
Sierra Leone death toll rises to 678
Singapore: Ebola continues to ravage West Africa, as Sierra Leone records 121 deaths and several new infections in one single day. The overall death toll from the epidemic reached 3,439 out of a total of 7,492 infected cases in West Africa. Along with Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea are the epicenter of the current outbreak.
Though delayed initially, international assistance is now pouring into West Africa, as the impoverished countries are scrambling with the deadliest outbreak recorded in history. The United States has deployed around 4,000 military personnel to bolster support efforts and combat the outbreak in Liberia, the country worst hit by the disease.
Britain, China and Cuba have also extended support by dispatching medical teams with specialized nurses and doctors to Sierra Leone. Canada has sent a second mobile laboratory team to West Africa to provide rapid diagnostic support and monitor the effectiveness of infection prevention measures, such as hand-washing stations, face masks and disposal sites.
