The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has pointed out that to increase the first-dose coverage rate among the Taiwanese public, to achieve herd immunity and to meet the needs of the vaccine policy, the interval between the first dose and second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at this phase will be adjusted for some groups of people starting July 12 onwards, according to the resolutions adopted in the fourth extraordinary meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) at the Ministry of Health and Welfare held on July 11.

According to the resolutions, the period between two doses of the Moderna vaccine will remain to be at least 28 days for pregnant women, individuals in the first priority group and crew members of Taiwanese airlines, whereas, the interval between the two shots of the vaccine for members of the public who are not the above-mentioned three groups of people will be extended to 10-12 weeks. The policy will be adjusted on a rolling basis based on vaccine supply.

In addition, the CECC announced that the Japanese government would provide an additional 1.13 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Taiwan after it had offered a batch of 1.24 million doses of the vaccine to Taiwan last month.
