Singapore: In a survey conducted by Bloomberg's Most Efficient Health Care 2014, Singapore has obtained the top scores for global healthcare efficiency, beating the previous incumbent Hong Kong. The country had an efficiency score of 78.6, above Hong Kong's 77.5 and Italy's 76.3.

Bloomberg's survey assessed 51 countries and the ranking was based on factors such as life expectancy, cost of healthcare and total medical expenditure per person. The criteria of participation in the survey included having a population of at least 5 million, GDP per capita of at least $5,000 and life expectancy of at least 70 years.

Bloomberg highlighted that the increasing expenditure on medical services by the Singapore government boosted the healthcare sector in the country. Mr Jeremy Lin, head of Oliver Wyman, Asia Pacific health and life sciences practice, told Bloomberg, "Singapore's healthcare system is perfect. If the country successfully balances funding, the future of healthcare in the country would be very promising."
