Links Medical gets FDA & EU nod for NZ Manuka honey

Singapore: Links Medical have received both FDA and European Union (EU) marketing clearance for its new MANUKA FillTM medical-grade Manuka honey wound dressing, and for MANUKA IGTM non-tacky, contact layer dressing. Only 100 percent Manuka honey, which is produced from the nectar of the manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium) in New Zealand and Australia, is used to make LMP's wound care dressings.

Mr Tom Buckley, CEO, Links Medical Products, said that, "Being able to market our new medical-grade Manuka honey wound care products in the large and rapidly growing US and European markets, and potentially in the other countries that recognize the FDA and the EU's CE certifications, is a significant milestone for our company. Based on research and our discussions with wound care specialists, we know these products will make an important contribution to both wound and burn care."

The pure Manuka honey is processed to medical-grade quality and terminally sterilized to eliminate bacteria, microorganisms and spores. The company's careful processing and sterilization methods preserve the unique biological activity of the Manuka honey.

MANUKA Fill sterile wound dressing consists of 100 percent pure medical-grade Manuka honey supplied in easy-to-use half ounce and one and a half ounce tubes for direct application to wounds and burns. MANUKA Fill can be applied either directly to the wound bed or to a primary dressing.

MANUKA IG is a new non-adherent contact layer dressing utilizing 100% pure medical-grade Manuka honey and is designed to meet the growing demand for an alternative approach to dressings for advanced wound and burn care management.
