Bukwang Pharm appoints Korea's first female CEO

Singapore: Korean-based Bukwang Pharm announced the appointment of Ms Yu Hee-won as the co-president and CEO of Bukwang Pharm. The move marks the appointment of Korea's first female CEO for the pharmaceutical industry.

An official from the pharmaceutical industry said to a news agency, "Women CEOs are standing out, showing excellent performances in the multinational pharmaceutical industry. Woman power will be expected in the Korean pharmaceutical industry with the appointment of Ms Hee-won."

Speaking on her appointment Ms Hee-won added, "We will put efforts together to develop new medicines and contribute to sales growth by concentrating in research and development."

Ms Hee-won graduated from the college of pharmacy in Ewha Womans University and acquired a doctoral degree in the graduate school of the university. Previously, she has worked as a research student at the National Institutes of Health from 1995 to 1997 and has worked with Bukwang Pharm since 1999.

Bukwang Pharm currently has an anti-cancer drug in second stage clinical trials and also plans to begin clinical demonstration of JM-010, LID medicine from Contera Pharma this year, which Bukwang took over last year.
