Olympus Corporation and Hitachi have agreed to a five-year contract for joint development of the endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and Hitachi's continued supply of ultrasonic diagnostic equipment and related products for use in EUS. EUS is a system that combines an ultrasonic endoscope and an ultrasonic diagnostic device, and is widely used for evaluation of the degree of progression of diseases such as cancer, liver, pancreas, and bronchi, and for minimally invasive treatment, contributing to medical treatment.
Hitachi's diagnostic imaging business will be transferred to FUJIFILM Corporation on the condition that the acquisition of necessary clearances, permits, etc. is completed based on domestic and overseas competition laws and other laws and regulations. Therefore, this agreement will continue even after it is transferred to Fujifilm.
