First case of Google glass addiction documented
After a 35-day treatment program, the man is displaying fewer Google glass withdrawal symptoms
Singapore: Doctors in San Diego have identified the first case of internet addiction disorder by the use of Google Glass. The 31- year-old Navy serviceman is said to have used the glass for 18 hours a day, removing it only to sleep.
During his residential treatment program for alcoholism, doctors had identified that he had problems from the use of Google glass. It was also noticed that he exhibited involuntary movement of his right hand to his temple area, tapping it with his fore finger. This motion is used to activate the wearable technology.
Dr Andrew Doan, head of addictions and resilience research at the US Navy's Substance Abuse and Recovery Program (Sarp), co-author of the paper on the patient published in "Addictive Behaviors," said that internet addictions are not psychiatric disorders and can be treated if they receive proper treatment.
Dr Doan also added that the patient has now completed a 35-day program and is displaying fewer Google glass withdrawal symptoms.
