Singapore: Korea-based Severance Hospital announced that in collaboration with KT Corporation they have developed a mobile app to manage patients suffering from trachoma. The company said that the 'Trachoma App' would provide healthcare workers inputs about the eye disease detection and cure.

The company spokesperson said in a statement that the app would be extremely useful in underdeveloped regions with inadequate medical facilities. Trachoma is an infectious disease of the eye, occurring mainly in regions where sanitary conditions are poor.

The app provides healthcare workers to have access to the medical and personal information registered by a patient. The doctor can then track the history of the patient through the app, and manage surgery schedules, symptom management, and treatment statistics through it.

KT and Severance Hospital said that they are working with the government to distribute the app as a part of the National Health Program.

KT added that only 8 doctors were currently qualified to treat the 2.5 million trachoma patients. The company further stated that with the 'Trachoma app' the number of doctors who can treat the disease will rise to 5,00,000 by the end of this year.
