Singapore: According to a Xinhua news agency, a former deputy health commission chief of China Dr Huang Fengping, has been sentenced to 19 years of imprisonment after being found guilty of bribery, corruption, and embezzlement.

His case has been previously linked to British drugmaker GSK's bribery scandal for accepting more than 4,81,000 in bribes and embezzling more than $11,200 worth public property. He was arrested by police in December 2013.

The Shanghai Daily newspaper said Dr Fengping was found to have more than 400 envelopes stuffed with cash at his home, as well as gold bars and foreign currency in the boot of his car.

Dr Fengping is a neurosurgeon by training and has been the vice-president of Shanghai's Huashan Hospital and head of an industry association. President Xi Jinping has been waging a sweeping campaign against endemic corruption in the country and the crackdown has surfaced many scandals involving top pharma companies.
