Toshiba to set up operations in Malaysia, China and Brazil

Singapore: Toshiba Medical Systems Corp (TMSC), Japan, announced that the company is planning to move its diagnostic imaging operations to Malaysia.

TMSC also announced that is investing $17mn to set up a manufacturing base for diagnostic imaging in Malaysia, followed by China and Brazil.

Mr Fumio Otani, vice president, TMSC said, "We are looking to a more centralized base that can cater to the demand for medical devices, worldwide. Hence we are moving the manufacturing of diagnostic ultrasound systems and printed wiring board to the Malaysian facility. The facility will begin operations from December, 2014."

Mr Otani noted that Malaysia had lot of skilled expertise and a many government qualification programs that encouraged the diagnostic imaging industry. "In addition, Malaysia also had a mature semiconductor and automotive industries that made it an excellent location for procurement of parts," he added.

Mr Otani further stated that Malaysia, in its aim to join the ranks of developed countries was strongly promoting innovation. He added that Toshiba will work hard to contribute to the development of healthcare and medical devices industry in Malaysia.
