Singapore has become the first ASEAN country to provide government subsidies for eligible patients receiving vutrisiran for transthyretin amyloidosis.
From 1 September 2026, vutrisiran has been recommended for inclusion under Singapore’s Medication Assistance Fund for eligible patients with stage 1 or 2 hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis with polyneuropathy and transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy.
Eligible patients may receive subsidies of up to 75%, improving access to the therapy through Singapore’s public healthcare system.
Transthyretin amyloidosis is a progressive disease caused by the accumulation of abnormal transthyretin protein deposits in tissues and organs.
Depending on the form of the disease, patients may experience progressive nerve damage, cardiomyopathy or a combination of systemic complications.
Vutrisiran is an RNA interference therapeutic designed to reduce the production of transthyretin protein.
Clinical development of the therapy has included the HELIOS-A and HELIOS-B studies, which have evaluated its effects across hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis with polyneuropathy and transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy.
The subsidy milestone provides Singapore with a new mechanism to improve access to a specialised rare disease treatment that may otherwise carry significant financial barriers for patients.
Rare disease therapies frequently face challenges around affordability and reimbursement because small patient populations are combined with highly specialised development and manufacturing requirements.
The inclusion of vutrisiran under the Medication Assistance Fund therefore marks an important market-access development for amyloidosis treatment in Southeast Asia.
Medison Pharma said Singapore is the first market in ASEAN to establish government subsidy support for eligible patients receiving vutrisiran.
The move may also provide a reference point for other regional healthcare systems evaluating access to advanced therapies for rare and complex diseases.
