When will we stop celebrating World TB Day?

23 Mar 2012, BioSpectrum Bureau , BioSpectrum

The World TB Day is celebrated every year on March 24th in order to raise awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and efforts to eliminate the disease. The annual event commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch detected the TB bacillus, the cause of tuberculosis, which was a first step towards diagnosing and curing tuberculosis.

This day is meant to build public awareness about TB and the fact that it is an epidemic, mostly in developing countries. The day the world is completely free of TB, will be the day when there will be no need for us to spread awareness of an ertswhile diesease. Well, until that day we will have to keep our fingers crossed and hope that someday we stop celebrating the World TB Day!
