Singapore: Ms Katie L Bonds filed a lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Raleigh County, US, against her former employer AstazZeneca Pharmaceuticals, alleging that the firm failed to take appropriate measures to prevent an employee from sexually harassing her at work.
Ms Bonds is seeking damages in the amount of $60,000 and is being represented in the case by Mr Darl W Poling of Poling Law Offices.
According to the complaint filed by Ms Bonds, who was a pharmaceutical sales representative from February 2011, a male employee named Mr Ron Hinkle began making unwelcome sexual comments to her during the summer of 2011. She said that this would make her nervous, scared and caused her to suffer anxiety.
She also added that she noticed that Mr Hinkle was going out of his way to follow or bump into her during the work day. Ms Bonds highlighted that she filed a complaint with her supervisor, but that her supervisor did not take the allegations seriously and told her she must be mistaken, asked her to be a team player and discuss her issues with Mr Hinkle.
Ms Bonds alleges that AstazZeneca's failure to take appropriate steps to prevent future harassment forced her to resign and seek medical treatment for stress and anxiety.
