Singapore, Feb 29, 2008: The Enzyme Technology Laboratory of Thailand’s National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) has developed an effective low cost cell-permeabilizing reagent, ENZhance, for local industrial use.
According to Dr Lily Eurwilaichitr, a researcher and Project Team Leader at the Laboratory, the need to initiate this project stems from the fact that Thailand imports almost all of its enzymes worth $25 million for industrial use.
ENZhance works to improve the efficiency and sensitivity of enzyme assay. The optimized protocol allows efficient detection of a wide range of target enzymes, which can easily developed into high-throughout screening. The reagent is applicable for enzyme screening in most bacteria, including gram-negative, gram-positive, and actinomycetes. The most important aspects of ENZhance are that it is effective and economical available compared to conventional methods.
