FDA approves drug to treat ischemic stroke

Singapore, Jan 24, 2008: The USFDA has approved a drug that might cure Ischemic stroke, a type of neurological ailment.
 
Korean researchers from Ajou University and NeuroTech, a Korean pharma company, jointly developed the drug.
 
Amkor Pharmaceuticals, a Seattle-based clinical-stage company in which NeuroTech holds majority stake said the drug Neu2000KL was very effective and the US Food and Drug Administration has approved the drug for further advanced tests.
 
Under phase 1 of the research, the drug proved to be a very effective anti-oxidant and useful in curbing the rate of dying brain cells following a stroke.
