Brisbane, Oct 22, 2007: The sixth edition of the Australia’s largest annual biotech event ‘Aus Biotech 2007’ kicked off with the opening of the AusBiotech exhibition by Ms Desley Boyle, MP, Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry, Queensland in Brisbane on October 21, 2007.
Welcoming the delegates and exhibitors to the four-day national biotech conference and exhibition, Ms Desley Boyle said, “The Queensland government is committed to support the growth of biotechnology industry in the state which has been growing in the last few years.”
With a booming economy, an innovative workforce and impressive infrastructure, Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, has become a recognized hub for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Rich in natural resources important to the successes of the biotechnology companies, Brisbane also boasts world class hospitals and medical and research institutes as well as offering a highly competitive cost of research and development, clinical trials and manufacturing. The state of Queensland has invested over $1.5 billion (Australian dollars) in the sector in the last 7-8 years, providing a lot of opportunities for more investments to come in.
To promote biotechnology industry, besides the participation from Queensland government other states from Australia such as Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia too are showcasing the initiatives that are taken up by the respective governments. Over 130 exhibitors from India, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Canada are taking part in this mega biotechnology event of Australia.
