These stem cells were stored with CordLife by her parents in the eventuality that they might be needed in future.

According to Mr. Simon Hoo, General Manager, CordLife, "there has been a constant upward trend in the no. of units being stored each year and most importantly, released for therapeutic applications every year. According to our latest financial results released, the group has achieved a year on year growth of 60% in total revenue".
The company gets clients mostly through its awareness campaigns with various Hospitals and other Consumer activities. Many new clients are referred to through the existing group of clients also.
Since its official launch in January 2009 in India, CordLife has accelerated to the next level of achievement and now offers umbilical cord banking in addition to its cord blood banking service. Unlike conventional technology, that can only isolate mesenchymal stem cells, CordLife has a proven and patented technology that can isolate both mesenchymal and epithelial stem cells, the first and only in India. Mesenchymal stem cells can be used in conjunction with cord blood or bone marrow stem cells to increase the success rate of a transplant. They have also shown immense potential to treat diseases and repair injured tissues or organs. On the other hand, epithelial stem cells have the potential to grow skin and mucus membrane to treat non-healing wounds of diabetic, Hemophilia-A and traffic accident patients.
"With approximately 40.9 million people in India diagnosed with diabetes, CordLife's proven and patented umbilical cord banking technology will help to harvest stem cells that may induce faster wound healings to prevent unnecessary amputations," said Dr. Prosanto Chowdhury.
