Thailand signes research collaborative MoU with Japan

Singapore, March 20, 2008: Thailand's National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) and National Institute of Technology Evaluation (NITE) of Japan have signed a three year collaborative MoU to conduct joint program on the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources. The signing was held at NITE Headquarter in Tokyo between Prof Dr Morakot Tanticharoen, BIOTEC Director and Prof Makoto Misono, NITE President.

According to Dr Morakot, BIOTEC and NITE agreed to expand the research coverage to lactic acid bacteria in fermented foods, aero-aquatic fungi and exploitation of yeasts for bio-energy production. This is in addition to the on-going work on acetic acid bacteria, xylariaceous fungi and yeast.
