Singapore, Aug 19, 2008: “GlaxoSmithKline will collaborate on a new 10-year strategic roadmap with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). This roadmap seeks to identify growth opportunities and develop innovative healthcare solutions for the region and the world,” said Mr Andrew Witty, CEO of GlaxoSmithKline while reaffirming Glaxo’s long-standing partnership with the EDB.
GSK, one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, invested in Singapore’s first pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, 36 years ago. Today, this facility is one of the most adaptable and flexible amongst the company’s global operations.
"EDB is privileged to be GlaxoSmithKline's strategic partner. Ours is a deep friendship that goes back almost 40 years. We look forward to working closely with Mr Witty and his team to map out the tremendous growth opportunities in healthcare and Asia, and to explore how Singapore and GlaxoSmithKline can jointly develop innovative solutions to meet the needs of patients and the marketplace," said Dr Beh Swan Gin, Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board.
Mr Witty said, “Like Singapore, GSK has tremendous heritage. Working in partnership with the Government of Singapore and the EDB, we will continue to put patients at the heart of everything we invest in. This will be to help patients to do more, to live longer and better.”
Mr Witty is no stranger to Singapore, having worked there for five years before 2003 as the company’s Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific. During his stint in Singapore, Mr Witty was Board Member of the EDB and the Singapore Land Authority. He was awarded the Public Service Medal by the Government of Singapore.
