Bangalore, Jan 19, 2010: The event, organized by the Vision Group of Biotechnology of the State of Karnataka will show case the immense potential of the country’s biotech industry which is at an inflection point, said Mrs Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who chairs the vision group. Mrs Mazumdar-Shaw unveiled the event details to the media in the city on Tuesday. She heads India’s second largest biotech company, Biocon.

The 3-day event has also revised the BioAgri conclave which was not held in the 9^th edition in 2009. Organizers expect over 5,000 business visitors to attend the event from over 15 countries. Chile will be the partner country for the 2010 event. For the second consecutive year, the event will host the BioPartnering India session which will facilitate face-to-face interaction among business delegates.

The event began in 2001 as Bangalore Bio.com. From this year, it will emerge as the country’s largest biotech event. “Bangalore India Bio 2010 will play a major role in business development for India in the global biotech arena. Therefore, the event is aptly renamed Bangalore India Bio,” said Mr Ashok C Manoli, Karnataka’s chief biotech policy maker.

Bangalore India Bio will consist of an international exhibition, multi-track conference, BioPartnering India, CEO conclave, Bio-IP zone, scientific poster session and BioExcellence Awards function.

Mr Manoli said Karnataka had announced a revised Millennium Biotech Policy in late 2009 which seeks to promote aggressive growth of the industry in the state. The state was developing bioclusters outside Bangalore to promote other cities such as Dharwad ( BioAgri cluster), Mysore ( nutraceuticals hub), Bidar (animal nutrition).
