Dr. Chung-Cheng Liu takes over as VP & GD, BEL -Taiwan

Singapore, August 15, 2007: A premier-selection council of the Industrial Technology Research Institutes in Taiwan has appointed the former Deputy General Director of Biomedical Engineering Research Laboratories (BEL), Dr. Chung-Cheng Liu to the position of Vice President and General Director of BEL.
 
Dr. Liu, after earning his doctorial degree in Biochemistry from Boston University, began working at Genentech Corporation, where he specialized in Molecular Biology research. After his time with Genentech, Dr. Liu worked at Pharmacia, involved in the specialty laboratory of pathology diagnoses. Later he was responsible for numerous project management and administrative appointments at the leading global enzymes and bio-based biotechnology company, Genentech.
 
Dr. Liu has extensive experience in the industry, researching cutting edge technology. Throughout his illustrious career Dr. Liu has published numerous specialized patents and theses. With particular acclaim, he was the first person to discover type II topoisomerase, an enzyme with considerable application in many areas of industry.
 
After many years of experience in R&D services to the biotech industry, Dr. Liu returned to Taiwan in 1999 and has since continued to bring BEL further accolades including; Type 21 Human collagen. In 2002 following extensive research BEL received High density gene chip mass production technology and in 2002 Dr Liu received the MOEA and ITRI’s excellence in technology prize.
 
Dr. Liu is also a staunch supporter of cooperation between industry and academia, creating the domestic Biochip Clinical Application Alliance to develop close relationship between the domestic and international industries and academic groups. In the future Dr. Liu hopes to bring colleges and co-workers biotechnological breakthroughs for the institute and for Taiwan.
