Singapore, October 12, 2007: Thailand will host the Bangkok International Conference on “Avian Influenza 2008: Integration from Knowledge to Control” from January 23-25, 2008 at Napalai Ballroom, The Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok.
The conference is organized by the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and many allied organizations in Thailand. Given the confirmed high profile speakers participation, the conference is expected to attract international researchers and pharmaceutical industrialists.
Confirmed high profile keynote speakers include names such as Prof Robert G Webster, Prof Albert Osterhaus, Prof Kennedy F Shortridge, Prof Yoshihiro Kawaoka, and Prof Peter M Palese. These keynote speakers are considered by peers as world renowned experts in the field of avian influenza research.
Prof Osterhaus indicated that the highlight of his talk on “Development of pandemic influenza vaccines” will be the latest information on the development of pandemic influenza vaccines. Why it is taking so long to find the suitable vaccine and what is the likelihood of a successful vaccine completion. Prof Osterhaus said the audience would gain valuable information on the status of vaccine research and participate in a discussion on where we stand on the possibilities to develop and use such a vaccine when it is needed.
