Bangalore, Aug 12, 2008: Dr Vijay Chandru, CEO of Strand Life Sciences has taken over as the President of Association of Biotechnology Led Entrepreneurs (ABLE), the tradebody of biotechnology companies based in India.
Dr Chandru replaces Dr M Vidyasagar who will continue to be a Member of the Executive Council of ABLE and will look after the activities of ABLE in the US.
Dr Chandru will be the President for the period 2009-12. Dr Chandru, one of the founder members of ABLE, had earlier served as Secretary (2003-2006) and as a member of the Executive Council (2006-2009). Dr Chandru was awarded the BioSpectrum Person of the Year Award in 2007.
After his appointment Dr Chandru said, “I am honored to take on the role of the President of ABLE. Indian biotechnology will play an increasingly important role on the global stage in years to come and ABLE is the collective face of this industry.”
