Singapore, Mar 09: Researchers at Thailand's National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) successfully developed allergy test kit for domestic animals using DNA marker assisted technology. The technology breakthrough helps to reduce the amount of wait time by clinic physicians, quicker analysis of animal health symptoms, and cost savings for both the clinic and pet owners.
“The important difference between this test kit and existing ones is that it works on the blood cells (DNA samples) and not as a result of chemical reactions such as pregnancy test kit” said Dr Ekachai Jenwitheesuk, a researcher at BIOTEC Biostatistics and Informatics who developed this test kit. Dr Ekachai is also a certified veterinarian.
The test kit is still in laboratory scale status. The media release noted that in order to develop this test to commercialize status, further research funding is required. Interested investors can contact the Technology Licensing Office at National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand to discuss research status and investment opportunity.
