Inno Biologics, CEVEC sign agreement for using Human CAP Technology

Singapore, December 8, 2009: Inno Biologics Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Inno Bio Ventures Sdn. Bhd., from Malaysia has signed a strategic licensing agreement with CEVEC Pharmaceuticals GmbH, a German company specialising in the development of therapeutic proteins using a newly developed expression system based on human amniocytes – CEVEC’s Amniocyte Production (CAP) technology, offering significant advantages over existing production technology.

CEVEC's innovative technology will be used by Inno Biologics for developing production cell line and production of biopharmaceutical products. The CAP cell line offers stable and higher expression of human proteins and cell density. The cell’s origins are ethically accepted with a complete cell source and cell line development documentation. Most importantly, CAP human cell line will provide Inno Biologics with non oncogenic cells which will ensure the future therapies can be delivered in a safe and effective manner.

“With this technology, we can offer a unique platform for a truly human therapeutic protein. We are not just exchanging technology per se with CEVEC but also co-developing several platform technologies to complement the current technology in CEVEC. Another added benefit to this collaboration is that we hope to train our personnel so that Malaysians in the future will have qualified experts in human cell technology. Ultimately, we want to ensure Malaysians will have access to the best available therapy at a fraction of the cost they are paying right now,” said Dr Mohd Nazlee Kamal, Group Managing Director for Inno Bio Ventures Sdn. Bhd.

“Even between human cell lines, there are marked differences in quality and CEVEC’s human cell line with its CAP technology will accelerate the R&D processes for Inno Biologics. We look forward to work with Inno Biologics, the first company in Asia Pacific to obtain our technology,” said Rainer Lichtenberger, CEO of CEVEC.
