Quintiles' Japanese lab gets CAP accreditation

Singapore, Sep 8, 2010: US-based, Quintiles announced that its new lab in Tokyo, Japan has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), joining the largest network of fully harmonized, CAP-accredited central labs in the world.

“CAP accreditation has become the international gold standard for quality, and Quintiles is committed to delivering quality laboratory services that meet complex regulatory requirements in the New Health landscape,” said Mr Thomas Wollman, Senior Vice President, Quintiles Global Central Laboratories. “Our Tokyo facility is the 10th lab in Quintiles’ network to become CAP certified, validating our efforts to achieve high quality, consistent delivery across every region and every clinical trial.”

Quintiles began providing laboratory services in Japan in 2008 through an alliance with Medca Japan. In March 2010, Quintiles opened its own central laboratory in Tokyo to strengthen its capability to efficiently serve customers in Japan and the Asia-Pacific. The wholly-owned Tokyo facility features expanded testing capabilities, and will increase its test menu to include molecular/polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and other tests based on customer demand.

“Japan is quickly becoming a key destination for biopharmaceutical development and innovation,” said Mr Alan Ong, Vice President and General Manager, Quintiles Global Central Laboratories Asia. “Quintiles offers world-class, globally harmonized laboratory services that meet the unique requirements of Japan’s marketplace, while accommodating global and regional trials. We look forward to building on our strong track record of success with testing services that help customers get new medicines to patients faster.”

Quintiles is now said to have the largest and now entirely CAP-accredited central laboratory network in the world. With wholly-owned facilities in the US, Europe, South Africa, India, China, Singapore and Japan, and a tightly controlled network of affiliate laboratories in Argentina and Brazil, Quintiles supports global and regional trials in almost every country in the world. All Quintiles laboratories are said to operate with uniform instrumentation and standard operating procedures, delivering high quality, harmonized data.
