Hospira recalls blood bags following reports of the bags being punctured
Singapore: Hospira is recalling certain blood bags based on reports from
customers of damaged blood sets with instances of outer wall of blood bags
Piercing on the blood sets causing punctures on the outer wall of a blood
bag may result in spillage of the blood and blood products stored in the
bag, resulting in a delayor interruption in therapy.
The US FDA reported that root cause of the punctures has been identified as
the design of the new International Organization for Standardization
(ISO)-compliant pin, which has a sharp point that can sometimes pierce the
wall of non-ISO-compliant blood bags.
