Bangalore: Medtronic, a global medical technology company with its headquarters in the US, has named Ms Preetha Reddy, managing director of Apollo Hospitals, a division of the Apollo Group, to its Board of Directors. Ms Reddy was unanimously voted to the board as an independent director.
Ms Reddy has been prominent in the industry and Indian government efforts to advance important healthcare issues. In 2009, she was appointed to serve on the Indo-US CEOs Forum and the Indo-Malaysia CEOs Forum, think tanks created to strengthen bilateral cooperation and trade. Ms Reddy is a member of the Wipro Business Leadership Council, a governing board member of XLRI Jamshedpur, a leading management institution in India, and a senior vice president of the All India Management Association.
"We are delighted that Preetha Reddy will join our Board of Directors. Preetha is one of the world's true pioneers in bringing high-quality healthcare to patients in India and other emerging markets. She will be a valued adviser as we focus on globalizing our company and developing innovative therapies that provide both clinical and economic value," said Mr Omar Ishrak, Medtronic chairman and chief executive officer.
Medtronic has been looking to expand its reach in the Asia region. In August 2012, the company launched its first innovation center outside the US ad Europe. The center, located in Shanghai, China, is a step towards R&D for the local China market.
Medtronic also recently announced a five-year $6 million philanthropic commitment in the country to accelerate programs specifically designed to expand access to quality care and management of diabetes and heart disease, two of the world's leading killers.
