Leksell Gamma Knife Icon is the most precise cranial radio surgery device on the market
Singapore: Korea's Samsung Medical Center (SMC) has inked a pact with Elekta, a leading solutions provider for cancer and brain disorders, to deliver the first Leksell Gamma Knife Icon to Asia.
Leksell Gamma Knife Icon is the most precise cranial radio surgery device on the market, with an integrated image guidance system based on stereotactic Cone Beam CT.
The device also has an Online Adaptive Dose Control, a concept for continuous quality control that involves both high-definition motion management and technology to verify that the dose ends up in the right place.
"With Leksell Gamma Knife Icon, I can increase treatment efficiency while minimizing toxicity to normal brain tissues," said Dr. Jung-Il Lee, professor at SMC's department of neurosurgery. "Icon brings new possibilities to patients with tumors that could not be operated on before."
Mr Per Nylund, Elekta's business marketing director for Neuroscience in Asia, said, "Outside China, SMC is one of the busiest Gamma Knife radio surgery centers in Asia. Furthermore, SMC is an active research center and frequently publishes scientific articles within the field of radiosurgery. We are delighted that Professor Lee and SMC are the first in the region to choose Leksell Gamma Knife Icon to enhance their operational efficiency"
