Ebola continues to wreck havoc, kills 76 in 2 days, death toll rises to 1145
Singapore: Reports have confirmed that atleast 20 Ebola patients have escaped a quarantine center in Liberia, after an angry mob attacked the center located in Monrovia's densely populated West Point Township. The deadly outbreak seems to be compounded with hysteria as the attackers looted the center and took items including blood-stained sheets and mattresses.
The attack endangers the entire West Point Township-a home to 50,000 people, to the virus and is thought to be a major setback in the government's efforts to contain the disease.
Ebola cases soar sky high with 76 deaths reported in 2 days. WHO's new statistics indicate that out of the total 2127 cases reported, 1145 people have died.
Assistant Health Minister Mr Tolbert Nyenswah commented that protesters had been unhappy with patients being brought in from other parts of the capital.
Mr Nyenswah said that 29 patients at the center were being relocated and readmitted to an Ebola treatment center located in the facility of the country's John F Kennedy Memorial Medical Center.
