MERS has infected 721 people, claiming 295 lives so far
Singapore: The Saudi Arabian Health Ministry announced that the menace of MERS could finally be brought under control, with no new cases registered among 6.3 million Umra performers of this season.
Health officials said that there was a remarkable decline in the number of cases reported in the Kingdom in recent days. As per the latest update, 721 people have been infected with the disease with 295 deaths.
Acting Health Minister Mr Adel Fakeih said that no new cases were reported for the past four days. He said that Saudi's consistent efforts to curb the virus had finally shown up results.
Saudi Arabia had conducted a nationwide campaign in collaboration with the WHO for curbing the disease. Mr Fakeih said that the sharp reduction in cases could be attributed to the sincere efforts of health officials and government in generating awareness among people and pilgrims.
