Tough times ahead for Merck R&D personnel as the firm plans to axe several jobs
Singapore: Merck & Co plans to cut jobs at its research laboratories in order to simplify governance so as to advance therapeutic and vaccine candidates more efficiently and focus resources on the most promising programs. The move comes two months after Dr Roger Perlmutter was appointed research head of Merck Research Laboratories.
Dr Perlmutter replaced Dr Peter Kim as Merck's head of research in April after several experimental medicines suffered setbacks in trials, which contributed to a two percent revenue decline.
Reports of Merck's plan to slash its research work force were posted on a pharmaceutical industry blog run by Mr Derek Lowe.
