New Delhi: The Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, unveiled the country's science, technology and innovation policy at the 100th Indian Science Congress, which was held in Kolkata, India. The policy aimed to put India among the top five science powerhouses of the world by 2020.

Dr Singh, who was present at the event along with President Mr Pranab Mukherjee, also welcomed several debates on varied topics ranging from genetically modified (GM) foods to energy.

Dr Singh said that the top priority of India's public policies must be the transformation of agriculture. He also emphasized the need to collaborate not only with leaders in science and technology but also with rising innovation powerhouses in our region.
