Singapore, March 14, 2008: SemBioSys Genetics, a Canadian biotechnology company, said it has been granted European patent entitled ‘Uses of Oil Bodies’. The claims of European patent are broadly directed to the production of emulsions comprising oleosomes extracted from any living cell, including plants such as safflower, and the use of these emulsions in a wide range of commercial applications including food ingredient, personal care as well as pharmaceutical applications.
Counterparts to the European patent have issued in many jurisdictions worldwide, including the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, China, India and Mexico.
Mr Andrew Baum, President and CEO of SemBioSys said this patent provides broad coverage for the production of personal care, pharmaceutical, food and other products based on emulsions comprised of oleosomes in the European market.
